Core Ideas Behind Our Work
It goes without saying that concepts such as honesty, hard work, and teamwork are part of the Duneolas culture. If values such as these need to be explicitly explained and instilled in you then I don’t think Duneolas will be a good fit. The culture in Duneolas is heavily influenced by a number of key ideas and principles which we have listed below
Shokunin Spirit
We put a massive emphasis on constant incremental improvement in both ourselves and the company. We believe in a sense of craftsmanship in one's work and that true mastery in any area is a lifelong pursuit. This approach to work is not for everyone but it is most definitely for the core Duneolas team. This idea is captured well by the Japanese concept of Shokunin.
Disagree and Commit
We believe open debate is important in getting to the right ideas and decisions. The disagree and commit method is an approach by which we encourage open debate between all team members so that ideas are robustly tested with no hierarchy. Once an idea/decision has been adequately tested by the team a decision is made and the team as whole get behind the decision 100% even if they were originally against it. If any ideas or decisions fail we never say I told you so as once the decision is made we get behind it as a team.
Language Simplicity
We believe in being able to communicate ideas/concepts simply and concisely. It shows a true understanding of the concept. Pseudo-intellectual behaviour, complexity for the sake of complexity and one-upmanship will not be tolerated in Duneolas.
We Play Infinite Games
Every element of life and society can be framed as a game of sorts. A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play. At Duneolas we have chosen to play the infinite game of improving the quality of the delivery of healthcare through technology. This framework of an infinite game helps us to maintain a long-term outlook on product and how we operate in the market.
Allergic to Politics In Work
We respect everyone’s right to participate in political expression and activism, but we avoid having political debates on our internal communication systems. Duneolas as a company also does not weigh in on politics publicly, outside of topics directly related to our business. You should be at peace with both of these stances.
Experimental Freedom
Our aim is to provide an environment of experimental freedom. We want true scientific (unbiased) processes to be integral to our culture. We want our people to feel free to create and conduct experiments. Mistakes are acceptable and expected but we must learn from them. One caveat is that no experiments will be conducted that knowingly risks the trust of our customers or overall financial stability of the firm.
Unshakeable Customer Focus
Like many of the most successful companies of the last century, we plan to keep a laser-like focus on the customer and their needs. This is easier said than done and becomes even more difficult with time and success. Where possible when tackling problems or planning for the future we must endeavour to always start with the customer and work our way back from their needs. Talking to customers is key to ensuring the team never loses touch with what customers actually want and need.
Approximately Right Over Precisely Wrong
It is better to be approximately right than precisely wrong. We do not have the luxury of infinite time to ensure we are 100% confident in all decisions. We therefore have a bias towards action as it helps to quickly ascertain if we are right or wrong and correct accordingly if needed. This is not an excuse for lazy decision-making (in fact it is often the opposite). When applying this approach it is important (especially in healthcare) to understand what are one-way door decisions vs two-way door decisions. For two-way door decisions, we can move quickly as we can easily reverse/change the decision but one way door decisions require a much higher level of conviction
